Northumberland Labour Group Letter

Dear Resident,

May I begin by thanking all those who signed my electronic petition on Malvins Road closure order extension and the dangerous water lying underneath the Albion Bridge.

As many of you will be aware the Council are not the landowners of either site.

Northumberland County Council planning committee supported local people and turned down the planning application for this site and subsequently lost a planning appeal so have no control over the development of the building site.

Your help in this matter has been outstanding, it has brought the Landowner to the table. On 24th May 2016 the Landowners are meeting with Northumberland County Councils planning department myself and leading Councillors, not only to discuss plans to remove and drain the current water but also to discuss future uses for their land which has lain derelict for many years. This is a massive step forward for our community.

On the road closure, our engineers are working closely with the Building Site Developer to shorten the closure time period  and both parties have agreed to minimise disruption as much as possible.

We will keep you informed of dates when drainage work will commence and bring an update report to the next area committee.

Yours Sincerely

Councillor Susan Davey

Cowpen Ward
